Pilgrim Experience Information

The Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico has begun a 5-year international pilgrimage with a traveling relic statue. It first came to the shrine in Chicago 2 months ago and drew over 35,000 people in the first week!  The purpose of the pilgrimage is to prepare the world for the 500th anniversary of the apparitions at Tepeyac, echoing Mary’s words to St. Juan Diego: "Am I not here, who is your mother?" The Madre Peregrina (Pilgrim Mother) is a life-size sculpture depicting the Virgin Mary in her apparitions as Our Lady of Guadalupe, the patroness of the Americas.

The primary purpose of the "Madre Peregrina" sculpture is to bring the spiritual presence and intercessory power of Our Lady of Guadalupe to communities worldwide, fostering peace, hope, and living faith among pilgrims.

The Pilgrim Experience

The primary way to experience and pray with our Lady of Guadalupe is the Pilgrim Experience.  This consists of a presentation on Our Lady's message by Fr. Tim Oudenhoven, Wisconsin Coordinator of the Pilgrim Mother Pilgrimage, a "Digital Experience" consisting of Mary's words to us with music and prayer and a time for personal prayer and veneration in front of the image.

You will also be given a white ribbon to write your petitions to Mary on which will then be sent to Mexico.  Archbishop Grob of Milwaukee will be offering a special Mass in Mexico at the Shrine for all the prayers of the pilgrims in Wisconsin.
